Card payment providers price their fees in one of two ways:
Blended pricing charges you one flat rate on every transaction, whatever card the customer uses, except premium credit card- think AMEX. It's simple, predictable, and easy to compare between providers.
Interchange pricing splits the fee into its parts: the interchange fee set by the card networks, which varies by card type, the scheme fee, and the provider's own markup. On paper it can look cheaper and more transparent, but in practice it's harder to compare, and can be where hidden costs tend to creep in. Some providers quote a low headline rate, then tuck extra charges into the contract, like authorisation fees, minimum monthly charges, PCI fees or higher "non-qualified" rates, that never appear in the original quote.
That's why we only match you with trusted suppliers who take the time to talk you through these nuances, so you know exactly what you'll pay and don't get hit by any surprises.
